Why serious fishers choose the Sting 725 PRO series

Explained by Sting designer Espen Thorup

In October, when the swells build and your work at sea is finished, you ask one thing of your boat: that it bring you home.

A serious fishing boat must be affordable to own, efficient to run, simple to work from and trusted in conditions most boats avoid. That's what Espen Thorup used his 30+ years of boat-designing experience to deliver with the 725 PRO series.

The thinking behind Sting’s 725 PRO series

The 725 concept sits at the core of the PRO series. Five different boats built on one tried-and-tested hull.

Designing a single hull for five configurations lowers production costs compared to building five separate boats, keeping the 725 series within reach for anglers, commercial operators and practical-minded owners alike. Creating a hull versatile enough for all five configurations while exceeding the expectations of those who depend on it was a different challenge.

“We succeeded in creating a series focused on stability, seaworthiness and strength. Every boat offers stable footing, especially when stationary.

"The semi-planing hull provides a safe and reliable ride even in severe conditions. It took time to find the right balance of function, ergonomics and strength. The result was well worth the effort,” says Espen, the man behind the 725 PRO design.

The 725 can be certified and registered as a professional fishing vessel. That distinction reflects what the platform was built to handle from the first sketch.

Commercial fishers are among the professions most exposed to injury and accidents, something Espen kept in mind at every stage. Every detail was evaluated for function and safety, ensuring it will hold up when the deck is wet, the load is heavy and conditions are against you.

Fuel efficiency comes from a well-designed hull fit for the task

“These boats can take a large engine, but not to achieve high speed. The purpose is to carry heavy loads,” Espen says.

The hull is a semi-planer type optimised for speeds up to around 20 knots. A deliberate choice.

“At 20 knots, it goes like a train. No professional fisherman drives at full throttle. That’s not how you make money from fishing,” he says.

The five different Sting 725 PRO models

Each boat in the 725 series looks different above the water surface. Below, they all rest on the same hull. Which one is right for you depends on how you work and the season you fish in.

Maximum unobstructed deck space. No roof, no cabin, just a clean working platform built for hauling, sorting and fishing. The right boat for those who want full freedom of movement across the entire deck, fish in warmer months, and value simplicity and access over shelter. Every inch of space earns its keep.

The same open working deck as the Open, with a roof added overhead. Shade on long summer days, light cover against rain without walls or enclosure. The right choice for owners who fish in milder conditions and want sun protection without sacrificing the open-air feeling.

“The HT is the model with the main focus on transporting people and cargo from A to B,” says Espen.

The hardtop gives full overhead and side protection. You can close the back with a canopy wall. It's the right boat for the owner who is on the water year-round and needs a boat that performs just as well as a transporter as it does on a fishing trip.

Shelter without sacrificing working space. The cabin gives you somewhere dry to retreat, store gear out of the weather and handle colder months while keeping the working deck functional and accessible. The right choice for the owner who fishes most days and needs a boat that covers both comfort and capability.

Everything the Cabin offers, with more of it. More interior space and more room to operate comfortably when conditions push you inside. The right boat for longer days away from the dock, more demanding seasons and bigger crews to keep warm.

“For all models, it comes down to what tasks you need to solve, how you want to use the space, and what season and climate you’re operating in,” Espen says.

The deck on all five is designed to be adaptable. You can configure the floor area to your own requirements, adding external helm positions, generators or whatever the work demands. The boat doesn’t presume to know how you’ll use it.

The 725 PRO series in one sentence

The 725 series is the result of Espen’s 30+ years as a boat designer, with a philosophy of function over form. Each 725 model offers versatility, equally at home carrying crab pots in October as on a family excursion in July. Espen’s summary of the series is as stripped down as the boats themselves:

“99% pure function made smart.”
